Yellow Label Chardonnay 2015*

Scarborough Yellow Label Chardonnay

Scarborough Yellow Label Chardonnay 2015

The Scarborough Yellow Label is a favourite Chardonnay with many of our buyers and so, due to popular demand, we have included it on our range, quite happily. The Daily Drop Panel have always been impressed by the consistency and the flavour development of this wine - it is aged in oak and on lees for 12 months followed by 12 months in the bottle which is 2 years before it is released. Big, bold Chardonnay at its best. Enjoy.

Scarborough Yellow Label Chardonnay 2015

Region - Hunter Valley, AUSTRALIA.

Variety - 100% Chardonnay.

Style/Palate - medium-bodied, oaked.

Cellaring - Drink now or cellar to 2025.

Winemaking -   The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Gillards Road property and other vineyards from the Hunter Valley with the same soil type; deep hillside red/brown terra rossa of limestone parentage. They were machine picked in the early hours of the morning once they had reached a good balance of sugar, flavour and acid. Once in the winery the grapes were handled oxidatively, crushed, pressed and pumped to stainless steel tanks. Once settled,  the clear juice was racked and then inoculated to start fermentation. When fermentation was about 1/3rd through,  the fermenting juice was transferred to French oak Barrels of varying age. Fermentation was then completed in barrels with the malolactic fermentation occurring naturally (usually around 10-30%). The lees were stirred monthly. The wine was then pumped out of the barrels into stainless steel tanks and bottled for 12 months prior to release.

Scarborough Yellow Label Chardonnay 2015

"Part estate, part contract-grown on steep red soils of limestone parentage, machine-harvested, crushed, pressed and cold-settled clear juice into tank for cultured yeast fermentation, when 33% fermented, pumped to French oak and 10-30% mlf allowed. More about flavour than finesse, but is fresh. 90 Points, James Halliday, The Wine Companion, August 2017.
