The Chateau de Pizay Beaujolais is made and grown within the AOC appellations of Beaujolais and Brouilly, known for producing the lighter and more perfumed styles of the Beaujolais wines. Made from Gamay grapes, like most Beaujolais wines, the Chateau de Pizay shows an abundance of raspberry and cherry aromas and flavours. Light to medium tannins means this is a wine that is ideal chilled, and enjoyed with cheese such as Brie and Camembert, or cold meats such as chicken or even sushi. Take this wine on a picnic, everyone will love it!
Expert Reviews & Awards
"Chateau de Pizay Beaujolais is ridiculously cheap for the amount of pleasure it gives. This crimson draught of summer is fresh and direct and with real Beaujolais character plus both refreshment and body. This is the sort of wine that is hugely versatile in terms of serving temperature. You can enjoy it at room temperature or you can stick it in the fridge and take it, heavily chilled, on a picnic.”

Produced from gnarled old goblet pruned vines, averaging 40 years old, grown on decomposed sandy granite and made from low yields of 50 hl/ha. Winemaking is traditional, with no destemming and ageing in vats with cooling after pressing to retain the perfume and freshness of pure Gamay.

Chateau de Pizay
Chateau de Pizay is one of the biggest Beaujolais vine- growing estates. The estate’s vineyards spread over 82 ha, with vines planted in the Regnie, Morgon and red and white Beaujolais appellation areas.
Variety
About Gamay & Pinotage
Gamay is a grape variety that is used to make light bodied, fruity, food friendly, red wines. Gamay is grown all over the world but it features prominently in France, where it is used to make the famous Beaujolais wines. Gamay wines, such as Beaujolais, are soft, delicious and very approachable. They have appealing aromas of cherry, raspberry, pear and violets. Beaujolais are often made for early drinking. Some of the higher classifications of Beaujolais, that made from particular villages or appellations (crus), have more structure and are more suitable for ageing. In Australia, Gamay grows well in cooler regions such as the Yarra Valley and Southern Tasmania.
Region
About Beaujolais
The Beaujolais wine region is located at the southern end of Burgundy and to the north of Lyon. Beaujolais is well known for producing light bodied red wines that have delightful, bright red fruit aromas and flavours. Most of the wines in Beaujolais are made from the gamay grape, under the hierarchy of the appellation system in Beaujolais. The wines on the highest tier of the hierarchy are the Beaujolais Crus, these wines can only be made from one of ten specific appellations. The Beaujolais Crus are more structured and suitable for bottle ageing due to their higher tannins. The next tier are the Beaujolais Villages wines that are made by blending different villages, including the famous Beaujolais Nouveau wines. The Beaujolais Nouveau are made for early drinking and are always released on the third Thursday every November. Finally, the Beaujolais regional wines can be made from any of the vineyards in Beaujolais. These wines are light, bright and fruity, often showing aromas of kirsch, cherries and cinnamon spices.
