Harewood Estate Denmark Pinot Noir
Great Southern
$28.70
Min. Quantity: 3
The Harewood Estate Denmark Pinot Noir has been produced from fruit grown in the sub region of Denmark, which is part of the 'Great Southern' wine region in Western Australia. The wine displays a light crimson colour, with hints of purple. A lifted nose of red cherry and strawberry is complemented by earthier, mushroom characters and spicy French oak. Vibrant flavours of raspberry and ripe strawberries are balanced by more complex notes of spice and truffle with a creamy mid palate. The wine finishes with hints of mocha and a juicy redcurrant acidity that is supported by gentle tannins and toasty French oak. Distinctly Pinot Noir, this is a beautiful red wine at an unbeatable price.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"Produced from 5 estate-grown clones. The price and slightly watery though bright hue dampened my expectations, but hey, there's far more to the wine, with the all-important varietal expression nailed to the mast. Red and black cherry-accented fruit may lack sophistication and complexity, but the odds are stacked in favour of 3–5 years revealing more and more." 90 points (On the 2021 vintage).

"A blend of 2 vineyards in Denmark. Bright, crunchy and like a first cherry of the season. Pretty. Decent delivery of 'pinosity' for $20.00." 90 points (On the 2020 vintage).

Harewood Estate
Even by Australian standards, the Great Southern is vast, indeed one of the largest, and most isolated wine regions in the world. It is the playground of winemaker James Kellie, where he has a clear vision to create wines that represent the diversity and capacity of this unique place.
The Great Southern wine growing region is located 4 hours drive from Perth and provides unmatched versatility and quality for a winemaker. Harewood Estate wines showcase the diverse and spectacular Great Southern region. Based in Denmark, along the coast overlooking the Southern Ocean, the estate vineyards cover two sites off Scotsdale Road north of the town: the original Harewood vineyard and the recently acquired Apricus Hill. The Estate vineyards are complemented by those managed to James Kellie’s specifications across this dynamic region. James’ elegant and pure wine style reflects the pristine, un-spoilt nature of his backyard. This potential is expressed in a range of wines produced from grapes grown in select, low yielding Frankland River, Mount Barker, Porongurup and Denmark vineyards.

About Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is one of the world's most loved, light bodied red wines. Pinot Noir can be made into a variety wine styles, from light and fruity styles featuring cherry and strawberry notes to more complex, gamey and earthy styles. Pinot Noir is usually higher in acid and lower in tannin, making it an ideal pairing for lighter, fattier foods duck, cheese and lamb. Often, the region defines the style. Along with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir is the main grape variety in Burgundy, where the cooler climate produces highly prized wines, loved throughout history of drinking wine! Germany is also known for high quality Pinot Noir, produced in the cooler regions of Pfalz and Baden. As well as France and Germany, the 'new world' wine countries such as the USA, Chile, South Africa and New Zealand also produce high quality Pinot Noir. The list of top Pinot Noir regions in the world includes; Sonoma County, Carneros, Santa Barbara County and Oregon (USA), Casablanca (Chile), Walker Bay (South Africa), Marlborough and Central Otago (New Zealand). Australia also has pockets of high quality Pinot Noir in multiple regions but some of the best Pinot Noir wines are made in the Yarra Valley, Tasmania, The Mornington Peninsula and the Adelaide Hills.

About Great Southern
The Great Southern Wine region is located 4 hours drive, heading south-east from Perth in Western Australia. It is one of the largest and most isolated wine regions in the world. The Great Southern Wine region includes the sub regions of Mount Barker, Porongurup, Frankland River, Albany and Denmark. Often compared to the Margaret River region, Great Southern has a strong Antarctic influence that provides a cool, maritime climate, ideal for fresh whites and spicy reds. The Margaret River, by comparison, is exposed to slightly warmer waters and breezes, from the Indian Ocean.
