Hiddenfire Wines
Hiddenfire Hunt Road Grenache
McLaren Vale
$45.00
Min. Quantity: 1
Hiddenfire's Hunt Road Grenache is a vivaciously vibrant, medium-bodied wine with a distinct ruby red colour and subtle purple hue. Lifted red fruit aromas of cherry, spice and violets sit easily with soft tannins that linger across the palate. This is a delightful, fruit forward Grenache that would be a crowd pleaser - no doubt. Made from 60 year old McLaren Vale bush vines that are hand pruned and hand picked, these vines are nurtured for optimum fruit exposure to the sun - hence this is a fruitier style of Grenache. Pairs perfectly alongside braised lamb ragu with pappardelle, or cured meats and aged cheddar.
Producer
Hiddenfire Wines
Hiddenfire Wines is a family owned winery, based in McLaren Vale. The winery was established by winemaker Charles Whish and his wife Lynn. They produce small volume, single batch wines from their own vineyards. Charles has an extensive career spanning five decades in the wine industry, with a long list of winemaking awards to his name - including the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy - Charles’ passion for wine began within the canopies of his father’s vineyards in Inverell, NSW, where he developed a love of grape growing and winemaking. During his career he was a senior winemaker with Rosemount Estate and Treasury Wine Estates, both prominent multinational wine companies, before joining Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale. Over this period he was given the scope to hone his craft and focus on creating wines of distinct regional character and international acclaim. Hiddenfire Wines brings Charles’ passion full-circle - fulfilling a desire to create his own extraordinary small batch wines that show unique personality and genuinely represent the vineyards from which they originate. The natural environment has always been important to Lynn, who oversees the viticulture side of the winery and the management of the Hiddenfire vineyards. Lynn is also an artist and the Hiddenfire labels feature her artworks. In addition, the second generation are actively involved in the Hiddenfire winery with daughters Emily and Katie overseeing winery operations with their partners, Reg and James.
Variety
About Grenache & Grenache blends
Grenache is grown around the world and it is mostly known as a blending partner with other grape varieties. However, when it is made into a varietal wine on it's own, Grenache can produce a richly flavoured red wine that shows an abundance of red berries and delicious peppery spices. Some of the finest wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhone, are made from 100% Grenache. Other great wines from this region are made from Grenache blended with Syrah and Mourvedre. These iconic wines are also full-bodied, rich and textural with a concentration of spicy red fruit aromas and flavours. In Spain, Grenache is known as Garnacha and it is used in blends with Tempranillo, from regions such as Priorat and Rioja. Outside of Europe, some of the world's highest quality Grenache wines are made in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, as well as other Australian regions. Made from old bush vines, these wines are known for their impressive concentration of ripe fruit flavours and their overall approachability. Being a late ripening grape, Grenache needs to be planted in warm or hot climates.
