Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Gris
Central Otago
$32.40
Min. Quantity: 1
The Bannockburn Pinot Gris is made by 'Mt. Difficulty' , one of Central Otago's leading artisan winegrowers. Showing an abundance of pear and ginger on the front palate, joined by jasmine and honeysuckle florals. This is a lovely textural style of Pinot Gris, fully ripe and showing the fresh acidity of Central Otago to carry the full-bodied palate. A long silky finish with pear, red delicious apple and clover honey.
Winemaking Notes
The fruit was hand harvested in top condition and was crushed and pressed after minimal skin contact, once it arrived in the winery.
The juice was then racked to another tank for wild fermentation which was carried out at warmer temperatures to enhance the rich textural characters of Central Otago Pinot Gris. For the first time, we fermented one batch in a concrete egg, which gave a lovely, textural component to the wine. The wine was then left unsulphured on its lees for 4 months and bottled.
Cellaring Notes
Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Gris will improve for 1-5 years given
optimal cellaring conditions.

About Pinot Grigio/Gris
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are made from the same grapes, the difference in the way these wines are named, usually indicates the style, or the country that the wine is made in. Pinot Gris/Grigio grapes develop a distinctive pinkish grey colour on their skins when they ripen. 'Gris' is the French word for grey while 'grigio' means grey in Italian. Some of the world's best Pinot Grigio wines are made in north-eastern Italy, at the foothills of the spectacular Italian Alps. The Alps border the wine regions of Alto Adige, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia. These regions are known for producing high quality Pinot Grigio that is usually dry, light to medium bodied and has a high acidity. This style of Pinot Grigio often shows aromas and flavours of citrus and green fruits. In contrast to Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy, Pinot Gris from Alsace, in Northern France is more full -bodied, rich and textural. The flavour intensity of these wines is also quite pronounced, showing aromas and flavours of dried fruits and honey, at times. High quality Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris is made in Australia, mostly in the cooler regions such as the Adelaide Hills, King Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Orange, the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.

About Central Otago
Central Otago is located east of Queenstown, on the South Island of New Zealand and at the foothills of the Southern New Zealand Alps. The wine region covers a large area that is dominated by mountain ranges and many of the vineyards are planted at high altitude or, in valleys. While the intense sunlight at higher altitudes develops higher alcohol levels in grapes, the cooler temperatures during the night preserve the freshness and acidity of the grapes. This combination results in full- bodied and vibrant Pinot Noir. Central Otago is also produces Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay.
