The Saint Max Cotes de Provence Rosé is made by Chateau Mont Redon and it is a gorgeously fresh, dry aromatic Rosé. Pale pink in colour and showing intense aromas and flavours of grapefruit, lemon and peach. Delicate acidity frames this wine beautifully, making it an ideal accompaniment to prawns, crayfish or fresh salads. Alternatively, the Saint Max Provence Rose could be served on its own as an aperitif.
Winemaking Notes
Made from 40% Grenache, 50% Cinsault, 7% Syrah and 3% Vermentino. Farmed and made by the owners of Chateau Mont-Redon from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Producer
Chateau Mont Redon
Chateau Mont-Redon will be familiar to those who know and love Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines, being well recognised as the owners of one of the most highly regarded vineyard sites in the appellation. The superb quality of its vineyards has been recognized throughout history and prior to the adaptation of the appellation controlee system it was one of the few ‘Grand Crus’ in the region (together with Chateau Rayas). With almost 100 hectares of Chateauneuf-du-Pape under vine, the majority of Mont-Redon’s vineyards are located in the appellation’s most favoured area, the high plateau, which is covered in the large round pudding stones that Châteauneuf is so well known for. These stones are called 'galets' and their job is to retain and reflect the warmth from the sun. At this high point, the huge pudding stone galets lie over a rich layer of clay which retains water and keeps the earth below cool. This helps the vines to resist the torrid heat of each summer. In the 1960’s, some of the limestone terroir on the western edge of the appellation was planted to white varieties which are perfectly suited to limestone, because it is known for producing whites of great freshness and purity. This remarkable property is in fact a single vineyard which is very unusual in Châteauneuf-du-Pape where holdings are usually quite scattered. There has been considerable investment at Mont-Redon over the past twenty years. The entire winery has been completely renewed and is now naturally climate controlled, utilising the water that lies deep below the clay plateau. From this water, cool air spills down into the winery cooling every level so that the whole winery retains a very cool temperature with natural humidity. Rows of oak barriques have replaced the old large foudres of yesteryear, and large temperature controlled stainless steel vats now line the walls, resulting in wines of freshness and finesse in both red and white wines. More recently optical sorting machines at harvest time have helped to remove any unripe or shriveled grapes as well as any vegetation resulting in great precision for every single wine. In recent years the developments have continued at a great pace with Pierre Fabre being installed as wine-maker from 2008 and in 2017 Pierre took over management of the estate from his father and uncle. In 2017, he produced the first Gigondas from purchased fruit and in 2019, he purchased more vineyards in the southern Rhône. This remarkable estate will continue to develop at a fast pace, as the potential of its great terroir is realised under the guardianship of Pierre Fabre. Mont-Redon is clearly a candidate for not only the most improved producer and the best value producer of the Southern Rhone, but now also one the very best producers in the large historic appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Mont-Redon looks destined to become one of the highest achievers of the Rhone Valley in the coming decade.

About Grenache & Grenache blends
Grenache is grown around the world and it is mostly known as a blending partner with other grape varieties. However, when it is made into a varietal wine on it's own, Grenache can produce a richly flavoured red wine that shows an abundance of red berries and delicious peppery spices. Some of the finest wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhone, are made from 100% Grenache. Other great wines from this region are made from Grenache blended with Syrah and Mourvedre. These iconic wines are also full-bodied, rich and textural with a concentration of spicy red fruit aromas and flavours. In Spain, Grenache is known as Garnacha and it is used in blends with Tempranillo, from regions such as Priorat and Rioja. Outside of Europe, some of the world's highest quality Grenache wines are made in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, as well as other Australian regions. Made from old bush vines, these wines are known for their impressive concentration of ripe fruit flavours and their overall approachability. Being a late ripening grape, Grenache needs to be planted in warm or hot climates.
About Rose
Rosé is made from red wine grapes that are fermented on their skins for just a few hours, instead of being fermented on their skins for weeks at a time, like they are during red winemaking. Rosé is also made in a few different styles, from the dry, pale, salmon-pink styles to the bright red and slightly sweeter styles of wine. Either way, Rosé is made and enjoyed all over the world.
