Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache Blanc
South Australia
$23.00
Min. Quantity: 3
Thistledown Wines specialise in Grenache, they always bring out the best in Grenache and in this case, it is a delightful white wine. This wine is made from Grenache Blanc grapes, that are related to the Grenache Noir grapes, used to make red wine. Grenache Blanc is more like the textural and nutty white wines such as Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier from the Loire Valley and the Rhone Valley in France. The palate shows bright, tangy citrus fruits, laced with hints of honeysuckle and lemon balm. Textured and complex, this is a beautifully crafted white wine that delivers flavour and style. Highly recommended.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"Obsessed grenache enthusiasts, Thistledown have searched out a few blocks of its white variant for this perky little number. Airs of poached pear (fruit and liquid) a faint spice note, perhaps a honeysuckle vibe, all held neatly in check. While there's a lovely tang mid palate, the drinking reveals a mouth-watering chalky texture that stays in the zone effortlessly. Lots to like here." (On the 2020 vintage).

Winemaking Notes
Organic fruit was hand-picked before being whole bunch pressed during oxidative handling, before undergoing a wild ferment in both concrete egg and used French barrels. No MLF and maturation on lees for 4 months helped increase texture prior to bottling.

About Grenache & Grenache blends
Grenache is grown around the world and it is mostly known as a blending partner with other grape varieties. However, when it is made into a varietal wine on it's own, Grenache can produce a richly flavoured red wine that shows an abundance of red berries and delicious peppery spices. Some of the finest wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhone, are made from 100% Grenache. Other great wines from this region are made from Grenache blended with Syrah and Mourvedre. These iconic wines are also full-bodied, rich and textural with a concentration of spicy red fruit aromas and flavours. In Spain, Grenache is known as Garnacha and it is used in blends with Tempranillo, from regions such as Priorat and Rioja. Outside of Europe, some of the world's highest quality Grenache wines are made in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, as well as other Australian regions. Made from old bush vines, these wines are known for their impressive concentration of ripe fruit flavours and their overall approachability. Being a late ripening grape, Grenache needs to be planted in warm or hot climates.
