It is World Malbec Day! Malbec is Argentina’s flagship wine and it is known for being deep in colour, rich in juicy black fruit aromas and flavours. Malbec is also loved for having smooth, soft tannins. Most of Argentina’s vineyards grow at high altitudes, more than 600 metres above sea level, close to the Andes Mountains and in very strong sunlight. Sunlight develops the fruit flavours in grapes, which is why Malbec has so much flavour. Mendoza Province is the largest wine region in Argentina and the Lujan de Cuyo department produces fine Malbec from old Malbec vines that are grown 1,000 metres above sea level.
