Pooley Pinot Noir
Min. Quantity: 6
The Pooley Pinot Noir displays scintillating notes of redcurrant, cherries and raspberry compote on the nose with an underlying layer of mineral, cacao and dried rose petal. On the palate, it’s pristine and persistent with bright red fruits, cedar, subtle game, and a dusting of black pepper. It’s intricately balanced with finely boned tannin and brilliant acidity.
Pooley Wines was first established in 1985 when Denis and Margaret Pooley planted vines on the banks of the Coal River in southern Tasmania. With seven rows of Pinot Noir and ten rows of Riesling planted on their 16-hectare farm at Cooinda Vale as a retirement plan, Denis and Margaret found a renewed vigour for life. A vineyard that started as nothing more than a distraction for Denis and Margaret soon flourished into a renowned premium cool-climate site. With the help of their son and grandchildren, three generations of the Pooley family have continued to bring meticulous care to their Cooinda Vale vineyard. In 1989, Cooinda Vale’s unique microclimate and terroir yielded its first vintage with the quality and consistency of fruit, speaking to Margaret and Denis’s love and dedication shown to their property. Now, more than 35 years after Pooley Wines was first established, the family’s philosophy of making wines that reflect their unique environment while pushing the quality of the grapes and the wines even further has continued. The Coal River Valley produces some of Australia’s finest wines, and Pooley Wines has been recognised as one of Australia’s most renowned cool-climate producers.
About Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is one of the world's most loved, light bodied red wines. Pinot Noir can be made into a variety wine styles, from light and fruity styles featuring cherry and strawberry notes to more complex, gamey and earthy styles. Pinot Noir is usually higher in acid and lower in tannin, making it an ideal pairing for lighter, fattier foods duck, cheese and lamb. Often, the region defines the style. Along with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir is the main grape variety in Burgundy, where the cooler climate produces highly prized wines, loved throughout history of drinking wine! Germany is also known for high quality Pinot Noir, produced in the cooler regions of Pfalz and Baden. As well as France and Germany, the 'new world' wine countries such as the USA, Chile, South Africa and New Zealand also produce high quality Pinot Noir. The list of top Pinot Noir regions in the world includes; Sonoma County, Carneros, Santa Barbara County and Oregon (USA), Casablanca (Chile), Walker Bay (South Africa), Marlborough and Central Otago (New Zealand). Australia also has pockets of high quality Pinot Noir in multiple regions but some of the best Pinot Noir wines are made in the Yarra Valley, Tasmania, The Mornington Peninsula and the Adelaide Hills.
Tasmania has a cool maritime climate and long Autumn days that are ideal for winemaking. This beautiful island is internationally renowned for producing top quality Pinot Noir and Sparkling wines. The island has seven premium wine regions, that are; The Tamar Valley, The Coal River Valley, The East Coast Wine Region, The Pipers River Wine Region, The Derwent Valley, The North West Wine Region and The Huon Valley.
