Cobb’s Hill Estate Onkaparinga Pinot Gris
Adelaide Hills
$32.00
Min. Quantity: 3
The Cobb's Hill Estate Onkaparinga Pinot Gris was grown in the Adelaide Hills, a cooler climate region that is known for producing high quality Pinot Gris. This wine has pronounced aromas and a full flavoured palate, showing citrus, nectarine, white peach and honeysuckle. This is a classic Pinot Gris that has all the right layers, along with a good acid backbone and a long, textural finish. Very drinkable and perfect for unwinding on a summer afternoon.
Winemaking Notes
Made from handpicked Pinot Gris grapes that were grown in the Cobb's Hill Estate 'Greenleaf Vineyard'. This particular vineyard has a north easterly aspect and it is quite steep. As a result, the grapes soak up the morning sunlight and develop appealing stone fruit characters while avoiding the intense afternoon heat that would compromise their acidity.
The grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel so that their delicate fruit aromas and acidity were protected prior to filtration and bottling.

Cobb's Hill Estate
Located in the Adelaide Hills wine region, Cobb's Hill Estate has a rich history dating back to 1854. The estate provided lush, green pastures for the horses that pulled the famous Cobb & Co stagecoaches through the Adelaide Hills, carrying mail and passengers in the pre rail era. Today, Cobb’s Hill Estate is set on over 250 acres (100 hectares) of quality farmland, with over 50 acres of vineyards and a herd of Black Angus cattle. The estate has ten magnificent vineyards, planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Shiraz vines. The Cobb's Hill Estate wines are made by acclaimed winemaker Peter Leske. Peter specialises in Adelaide Hills winemaking as well as being a highly regarded wine show judge. He has had extensive Australian and international winemaking experience, resulting in a long list of award winning wines to his name. Peter was also awarded 'Winemaker of the Year' by the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO), in 2020. All of the Cobb's Hill Estate wines are estate grown, vegan friendly and grown according to sustainable farming techniques.

About Pinot Grigio/Gris
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are made from the same grapes, the difference in the way these wines are named, usually indicates the style, or the country that the wine is made in. Pinot Gris/Grigio grapes develop a distinctive pinkish grey colour on their skins when they ripen. 'Gris' is the French word for grey while 'grigio' means grey in Italian. Some of the world's best Pinot Grigio wines are made in north-eastern Italy, at the foothills of the spectacular Italian Alps. The Alps border the wine regions of Alto Adige, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia. These regions are known for producing high quality Pinot Grigio that is usually dry, light to medium bodied and has a high acidity. This style of Pinot Grigio often shows aromas and flavours of citrus and green fruits. In contrast to Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy, Pinot Gris from Alsace, in Northern France is more full -bodied, rich and textural. The flavour intensity of these wines is also quite pronounced, showing aromas and flavours of dried fruits and honey, at times. High quality Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris is made in Australia, mostly in the cooler regions such as the Adelaide Hills, King Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Orange, the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.

About Adelaide Hills
The Adelaide Hills wine region is located twenty five kilometres east of Adelaide. The region is known internationally for producing high quality, cooler climate wine styles such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sparkling wine and Shiraz. Many of the vineyards are planted at over 350 metres above sea level with altitude being a major factor behind this region's premium reputation. The wines from this region are also well structured and ideal for sparkling winemaking, due to their naturally high acidity.
