Trimbach Reserve Pinot Gris
Alsace
$49.60
Min. Quantity: 3
The Trimbach Reserve Pinot Gris is grown and made in Alsace, one of the worlds leading regions for Pinot Gris. The wine is full bodied and dry, as well as having a pronounced flavour intensity and displaying fresh and dried fruit aromas and flavours. There is a hint of smokiness and a hint of honey, both ideal traits for Pinot Gris from Alsace. Pair with: terrines, fish in sauce, smoked or raw, white meats, mushrooms, well-seasoned and aromatic dishes, Asian cuisine…even spicy food.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"‘A touch of ripe Mirabelle plum joins the pear fruit on the nose. The resolutely dry palate holds them tight on a very concentrated, fresh but also earthy body. Taut and clean, this needs a little more time in bottle. The finish is whistle-clean." 93 points, Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Enthusiast, August 2018.

Producer
Trimbach
With viticultural origins going back to 1626 this family owned estate produces some of the finest wines not only of Alsace, but indeed the entire world of wine. Around the villages of Ribeauvillé and Hunawihr, the Trimbach family owns 57 hectares of vineyards including 1.67ha of Rosacker Grand cru (which produces the highly famed Clos Sainte Hune Riesling) as well as parcels of Geisberg and Osterberg (blended to make the equally renowned Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile). Geisberg and Osterberg are located on the hill rising up behind the ‘new’ family winery on the edge of Ribeauvillé. The family moved from their ‘old’ winery in Hunawihr in the 1890’s! Indeed, the label of Clos Sainte Hune depicts the view to the local church from the old winery in Hunawihr which is located in rue Saint Hune.
Grand cru sites make up 25% of the total production of the Trimbach family, whereas for Alsace the Grand cru sites represent 4% of all production.
Riesling is the main focus for Trimbach with 50% of production being Riesling (in Alsace Riesling makes up 22% of the total production).
In 1972 Trimbach eradicated all chemical use from the vineyards and winery and has been practicing sustainable farming, now organic for all estate vineyards.

About Pinot Grigio/Gris
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are made from the same grapes, the difference in the way these wines are named, usually indicates the style, or the country that the wine is made in. Pinot Gris/Grigio grapes develop a distinctive pinkish grey colour on their skins when they ripen. 'Gris' is the French word for grey while 'grigio' means grey in Italian. Some of the world's best Pinot Grigio wines are made in north-eastern Italy, at the foothills of the spectacular Italian Alps. The Alps border the wine regions of Alto Adige, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia. These regions are known for producing high quality Pinot Grigio that is usually dry, light to medium bodied and has a high acidity. This style of Pinot Grigio often shows aromas and flavours of citrus and green fruits. In contrast to Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy, Pinot Gris from Alsace, in Northern France is more full -bodied, rich and textural. The flavour intensity of these wines is also quite pronounced, showing aromas and flavours of dried fruits and honey, at times. High quality Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris is made in Australia, mostly in the cooler regions such as the Adelaide Hills, King Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Orange, the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.

About Alsace
Alsace is a French wine region that is located on the border, between Germany and France. Most of the wines that are produced in Alsace are white and the region is known for producing impressive Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat. Nearly all of the wines are made from a single variety and they are labelled as such, which is unusual for a French wine region. French wines are usually named according to their region or appellation. Alsace has a cool to moderate continental climate and the best vineyards are planted on the steepest slopes.
