McLaren Vale
$25.80
Robert Oatley Signature Series McLaren Vale Grenache.
Min. Quantity: 3
The Robert Oatley Signature Series Grenache is grown and made in one of Australia's leading Grenache regions, Mc Laren Vale. The vineyard sits within a portfolio of high performing regions. This is an unwooded red wine, similar in weight and body to a young Pinot Noir. The wine shows aromas and flavours of raspberry, redcurrant and cranberry with soft tannins from the grapes. An easy drinking crowd pleaser, the Signature Series Mc Laren Vale Grenache is delightful with pizza, slow cooked lamb or duck dishes.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"G-19. Open-fermented, 7-10 days on skins, minimal plunging, some post-ferment maceration, bottled without any oak involvement. Capture's Grenache's red fruits, but doesn't seek complexity." 90 points (on the 2019 vintage).
Halliday Wine Companion, August 2020 (JH). — 90 Points
Winemaking Notes
Grapes from the southern end of McLaren Vale were fermented on skins in a combination of open and closed fermenters then matured for a short period in tank prior to bottling. This is an unwooded red wine, similar in weight and body to a young Pinot Noir, Tempranillo or Sangiovese. It should be enjoyed at least lightly chilled, which will allow its lifted aromatics and bright, breezy personality to shine.

Producer
Robert Oatley Vineyards
Robert Oatley Wines was founded as a family winery in 2006 by the late Robert (Bob) Oatley AO BEM. Today the family business is led by Bob’s eldest son Sandy Oatley who, together with his father, brother and sister, planted the first Oatley family vineyards in the late 1960’s. Robert Oatley Wines celebrates the memory of Bob Oatley through a trio of labels: the maritime-influenced Signature Series, the specific vineyard focused Finisterre, and the best of the best barrels under The Pennant. Focusing on wines from Margaret River and McLaren Vale, their home is in the stunning Margaret River with a vineyard and cellar door on Caves Road, in the heart of this great wine region. Consistently scoring over 90 points with the critics and having collected too many medals to detail, a number of the wines have been or are trophy winners but most importantly they’ve resonated with the wine-loving public around Australia and the world. As Bob Oatley said ‘they must be a darned good drink.’
Variety
About Grenache & Grenache blends
Grenache is grown around the world and it is mostly known as a blending partner with other grape varieties. However, when it is made into a varietal wine on it's own, Grenache can produce a richly flavoured red wine that shows an abundance of red berries and delicious peppery spices. Some of the finest wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhone, are made from 100% Grenache. Other great wines from this region are made from Grenache blended with Syrah and Mourvedre. These iconic wines are also full-bodied, rich and textural with a concentration of spicy red fruit aromas and flavours. In Spain, Grenache is known as Garnacha and it is used in blends with Tempranillo, from regions such as Priorat and Rioja. Outside of Europe, some of the world's highest quality Grenache wines are made in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, as well as other Australian regions. Made from old bush vines, these wines are known for their impressive concentration of ripe fruit flavours and their overall approachability. Being a late ripening grape, Grenache needs to be planted in warm or hot climates.
