Quealy Musk Creek Pinot Gris
Min. Quantity: 3
The Mornington Peninsula is producing very good Pinot Gris and the Quealy 'Musk Creek' Pinot Gris is one of the stars of this region. The Quealy Musk Creek Pinot Gris has texture and a good acid structure, this combination is ideal in Pinot Gris. Showing aromas of raspberry, orange rind and pear along with flavours of honey and lemon. This wine has a great depth and viscosity and would pair well with roast chicken, indian curry or a tripple cream brie.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"Texture sets this apart from its grigio sibling. It's also full of lemon balm, grapefruit pith and slightly crunchy pears laced with pepper and freshly cut herbs."

Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy were pioneers of the Mornington Peninsula wine region. This power couple were not only part of the early wave of growers to begin seriously exploring and planting vineyards in the Mornington Peninsula in the early ‘90s, they were the first producers to identify this area’s potential with Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio. Their work with this variety made the grape a household name in Australia. Study trips to Collio (1995) Alsace (1998), and the pilgrimage to Josko Gravner (2006), all had a profound influence on Quealy and McCarthy’s thinking—and led to some of Australia’s finest, and earliest attempts at quality skin contact wines: an adventure that continues today. Kathleen Quealy planted the Musk Creek vineyard in 1997. Perched atop Main Ridge, overlooking Westernport Bay and the heads, it’s the coolest site in the portfolio, bestowing exceptional late-ripening Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Four vineyards lie at the heart of the portfolio. The Home Block in Balnarring was planted in 1982 and has some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the Peninsula. This is also the home to Quealy’s oldest Pinot Grigio, as well as the aromatic varieties of Moscato Giallo, Friulano and Riesling, as well as some more recent plantings of Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla. There is now a generational shift at play with Tom McCarthy, the eldest son of Kathleen and Kevin starting to make his mark. The outstanding quality of recent Pinot Noir releases underlines what Tom is bringing to the table. Armed with a degree in Agricultural Science, and vintages in Collio and Burgundy under his belt, Tom joined his parents in 2011 and has progressively taken on more and more responsibility

About Pinot Grigio/Gris
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are made from the same grapes, the difference in the way these wines are named, usually indicates the style, or the country that the wine is made in.
Pinot Gris/Grigio grapes develop a distinctive pinkish grey colour on their skins when they ripen. 'Gris' is the French word for grey while 'grigio' means grey in Italian.
Some of the world's best Pinot Grigio wines are made in north-eastern Italy, at the foothills of the spectacular Italian Alps. The Alps border the wine regions of Alto Adige, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia. These regions are known for producing high quality Pinot Grigio that is usually dry, light to medium bodied and has a high acidity. This style of Pinot Grigio often shows aromas and flavours of citrus and green fruits.
In contrast to Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy, Pinot Gris from Alsace, in Northern France is more full -bodied, rich and textural. The flavour intensity of these wines is also quite pronounced, showing aromas and flavours of dried fruits and honey, at times.
High quality Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris is made in Australia, mostly in the cooler regions such as the Adelaide Hills, King Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Orange, the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.

About Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula is an inspiring wine region, known for high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio also grow well in the region's ideal, maritime climate. Located 70 kilometres south of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula is surrounded by three bodies of water (including Port Philip Bay and the Bass Strait), providing ideal cooling breezes (it can be windy at times) and cooler nights that helps the grapes to retain their acidity. The white wines are fragrant and display pure fruit characteristics such as apple, pear and citrus. The Pinot Noir can be either light or more structured, depending on the location of the vineyard and winemaking techniques.
