Harewood Estate Great Southern Cabernet Merlot
Great Southern
$19.20
Min. Quantity: 3
This Harewood Estate Great Southern Cabernet Merlot is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, sourced from specialist vineyards in the Porongurup, Frankland River and Mount Barker sub regions of the Great Southern wine region in Western Australia. The individual batches were fermented in small open fermenters and then matured in a mixture of new and older French oak barriques to add layers and complexity. Following nine months in oak, the wines were carefully blended and returned to barrel for a further nine months prior to bottling. A dense, inky, red wine that also has youthful purple hues. A complex, perfumed and spicy nose of blackcurrant, mint and tobacco leaf palate. A full, seamless and textured palate of blackberry, plums and spicy vanillin French oak , complemented by a long finish of chocolate mint, raspberry and fine tannins.
Expert Reviews & Awards
"Mid-crimson and bright; a rather appealing mix of blackberries, tangy red currants, pepper and fresh herbs. Initial softness and fruit sweetness across the palate tempered by tangy acidity and a mouthful of terse tannins." 92 Points (on the 2017 Vintage).

Harewood Estate
Even by Australian standards, the Great Southern is vast, indeed one of the largest, and most isolated wine regions in the world. It is the playground of winemaker James Kellie, where he has a clear vision to create wines that represent the diversity and capacity of this unique place.
The Great Southern wine growing region is located 4 hours drive from Perth and provides unmatched versatility and quality for a winemaker. Harewood Estate wines showcase the diverse and spectacular Great Southern region. Based in Denmark, along the coast overlooking the Southern Ocean, the estate vineyards cover two sites off Scotsdale Road north of the town: the original Harewood vineyard and the recently acquired Apricus Hill. The Estate vineyards are complemented by those managed to James Kellie’s specifications across this dynamic region. James’ elegant and pure wine style reflects the pristine, un-spoilt nature of his backyard. This potential is expressed in a range of wines produced from grapes grown in select, low yielding Frankland River, Mount Barker, Porongurup and Denmark vineyards.

About Great Southern
The Great Southern Wine region is located 4 hours drive, heading south-east from Perth in Western Australia. It is one of the largest and most isolated wine regions in the world. The Great Southern Wine region includes the sub regions of Mount Barker, Porongurup, Frankland River, Albany and Denmark. Often compared to the Margaret River region, Great Southern has a strong Antarctic influence that provides a cool, maritime climate, ideal for fresh whites and spicy reds. The Margaret River, by comparison, is exposed to slightly warmer waters and breezes, from the Indian Ocean.
